The Spanish political leaders praised Thursday’s first Christmas speech of King Philip VI, who spoke unemployment crises in Catalonia and corruption, although he did not mention the fraud scandal in which his sister is involved
“King described well the three fundamental crisis that currently exist in Spain:. the political and institutional crisis (in relation to corruption), economic and social crisis, and territorial crisis, “he said in an interview with radio Cadena Ser Antonio Hernando, spokesman for the Socialist group in Congress.
The first Christmas speech of Philip VI, 46, who last June 19 he succeeded his father, King Juan Carlos, had generated great excitement. The speech was delivered on Wednesday night, two days after a judge send to dock her sister Cristina de Borbón, with her husband and 15 others for tax fraud. The case takes four years to undermine the Spanish monarchy.
When speaking of corruption affecting the Spanish political class, the subject of numerous judicial investigations at present, the monarch was “especially poignant,” said Hernando.
This was a “good speech,” the center-left daily El Pais, which however missed an explicit reference to research on the king’s sister.
Philip VI ended his speech greeting the Spaniards in the four -Spanish, Catalan, Euskera (Basque) and Galician official languages, in an unusual gesture, and evoked repeatedly to Catalonia region about half of the population seeking independence from Spanish state.
“Millions of Spaniards have to Catalonia in the heart,” said the monarch. “Let us all a loyal, sincere effort, and rencontrémonos what we should never lose: the mutual affections and feelings that we share,” he said after naming directly to Catalonia and ask that the Constitution is respected.
“The challenge there, is there,” said the Catalan nationalist president, Artur Mas, appreciating that the monarch would identify the problem.
“It is recognized in the words of King in his Christmas speech. And the respect that often calls through the ‘together’ or ‘not as together’ can be decided from the people of Catalonia” .
Meanwhile, the ruling party also joined the praises of the monarch. “It’s a street next to the king, who perfectly knows the problems of the Spanish and the challenges we face as a society,” said Deputy Secretary of the Popular Party, Carlos Floriano
