The European Union must democratize or disintegrate
of all your worries! for global competitiveness, migration and terrorism, there is only a perspective that really terrifies the powers of Europe: democracy! They speak in the name of democracy, but in practice only deny, distort it and repress. Seek to curtail, evade, corrupt, mystify, usurp and manipulate democracy in order to arrest its energy and its possibilities.
This is the will of the peoples of Europe, the government of the demos, is the nightmare shared by:
- the Brussels bureaucracy (and its more than 10,000 lobbyists)

The European Union was an outstanding achievement. He managed to unite peacefully about European peoples who speak different languages and are immersed in different cultures, demonstrating that it was possible to create a shared human rights on a continent that was, not long before, dominated by a murderous chauvinism framework, racism and barbarism. The European Union could have been the proverbial lighthouse in the fog and show the world that peace and solidarity could be snatched from the jaws of conflict and intolerance.
Unfortunately, today a bureaucracy common and common currency divide the peoples of Europe that had begun to unite despite their different languages and cultures. In its place is a confederation of shortsighted politicians, naive officials in economics and “experts” incompetent regarding finances. And that Confederation is subject to the dictates of the financial and industrial conglomerates, discrediting Europe and causing a dangerous anti-European reaction. proud peoples are opposing each other. Nationalism, extremism and racism are reawakening
At the heart of our EU disintegration nests deception. A decision process very politicized, opaque and vertical that it is presented to us as “apolitical” , “technical”, “procedural” and “neutral”. Its purpose is to prevent European exercise democratic control over their money, finances, working conditions and environment. The price of this deception is not only to democracy but also economic policies wrong:

Our movement, Diem-25, is designed to facilitate this development. The driving force DiEM25 is a simple and radical idea:
democratize Europe! The EU has to be democratized or disintegrate!
Our goal of democratizing Europe is realistic. It is no more utopian than it already was the initial construction of the European Union. In fact, it is less utopian to try to keep alive the current undemocratic European Union and fragmentation process.
Our goal of democratizing Europe is terribly urgent. If we do not start immediately it may be impossible to overcome institutional resistance time before Europe reaches the point of no return. We within a decade, until 2015.
If we fail then the attempt to democratize Europe within a period of a decade, and if their autocratic powers manage to stifle democracy, the EU will collapse under their arrogance; will splinter and fall will cause untold difficulties everywhere, not only in Europe.
Why Europe is losing its integrity and soul?
During the postwar decades in that the EU was initially built, national cultures were revitalized by the spirit of internationalism, disappearing borders and shared prosperity that raised the bar did unite Europeans. But “The Serpent’s Egg” nestled in the heart of the integration process.
From an economic point of view, the EU began its journey as a cartel of heavy industry (later co-opting the agricultural) decided to redistribute pricing and oligopoly profits through the Brussels bureaucracy owners. Patient and methodically put in motion a process of depoliticization in decision decision, the result being a slow but relentless drive toward “taking the demos of democracy” and cover all policy decisions with a pervasive and pseudotecnocrático fatalism. All who opposed this process of depoliticization were branded as “anti-European” and treated like a discordant note.
So, born deception in the heart of the EU, leading to the institutionalization of a commitment to policies that generate depressing economic results and difficulties of other avoidable way. Meanwhile, have abandoned the basic principles understood before a self-confident Europe:
- The rules have to be at the service of Europe and not vice versa
- a single market is consistent with democracy only if it includes defense mechanisms, democratically elected and constructed for the weaker European and environment.

- democracy is essential to ward off the worst self-destructive tendencies of capitalism and open a new window with a view towards social harmony and sustainable development.

in response to the inevitable crisis of “cartelised” social economy in Europe for further recovery from the Great Recession to 2008, the EU institutions caused the crisis have turned to a growing authoritarianism. Thus, the enemies of democracy are renewed its power while losing legitimacy and restrict hope and prosperity to a few (you can only enjoy them behind barriers and fences needed to protect the rest of the society).
This is the invisible process that Europe’s crisis is causing the absorption of our peoples, by facing each other, extending misunderstood patriotism and pre-existing xenophobia. Privatization of anxiety, fear of the other, the nationalization of ambition and renationalisation of politics threaten a toxic disintegration of common interests. From this, Europe can only suffer. The unfortunate reaction in Europe to the banking crisis and debt crisis of refugees and the need for a coherent foreign policy, and terrorism are examples of what happens when solidarity becomes meaningless:
- damage to the integrity of Europe caused by the crushing of Spring of Athens and the subsequent imposition of a program of “economic reform” that was designed to fail.
- the assumption now customary that, each time a state budget must be reinforced or bank rescued, the working class and the most disadvantaged in society are those who have to pay for the sins of the rich.
- the constant drive to commodify work and drive democracy employment center.

This is another example of moral panic caused by a European Union unable to make Europeans give common answers to common problems.
What should be done? Our horizon
Realism requires us to work in order to achieve certain goals in a reasonable time. Therefore diem-25 four objectives arises at regular intervals with the aim of achieving a functional and fully democratic Europe by 2025.
Today, Europeans feel abandoned by the institutions of EU. From Helsinki to Lisbon, from Dublin to Crete, from Leipzig to Aberdeen. Europeans perceive a hard crossroads is fast approaching. The choice is between genuine democracy and an insidious disintegration. We decide to join together to ensure that Europe take the sensible decision: true democracy
When asked what we want and when we want it, our answer is:
IMMEDIATELY absolute transparency . in decision-making
– the meetings of the EU Council, the Ecofin, the ITF and the Eurogroup are to be broadcast live
-. the minutes of the meeting governing Council of the ECB will be published a few weeks after the meetings have taken place
– All documents relating to crucial negotiations (eg. TTIP, “rescues” the status of United Kingdom) affecting in any way the future of European citizens must be published on the Internet
-. A mandatory registration of interest groups including the names of its customers, their pay and official meetings with staff (elected and unelected)
wITHIN TWELVE MONTHS. address the continuing economic crisis using existing institutions and within the framework of existing treaties of the EU
. the impending crisis in Europe simultaneously in five areas:
- debt
- banking sector
- inadequate investment
- migration and
- increasing poverty
These five areas have been left helpless in the hands of national governments to address them. Diem-25 will present concrete policy proposals to Europeanize the four areas while the discretionary power of Brussels is limited and that power is returned to the national parliaments, regional councils, municipalities and communities. The proposed policies will be directed towards redeployment of existing institutions (through a creative reinterpretation of treaties and agreements) in order to stabilize the public debt crisis, banking, inadequate investment and increased poverty.
wITHIN TWO YEARS: Constituent Assembly
the peoples of Europe have the right to consider what future they want for the Union and the duty to transform Europe by 2025, in a full democracy with a sovereign parliament that respects national self-determination and to share power with the national parliaments, regional assemblies and municipal boards. Therefore, it has convened an assembly of representatives. Diem-25 will promote a Constituent Assembly consisting of representatives elected on transnational lists. As do universities to apply for research funding through partnerships in other countries, elections for the Constituent Assembly shall require lists of candidates including most European countries. The resulting Constitutional Assembly shall have the power to decide on future democratic constitution in a decade will replace all existing European treaties

We, the peoples of Europe, have decided to regain control over our Europe which is now in the hands of ‘technocrats’ irresponsible accomplices and opaque political institutions.
we come from different parts of the continent and we are united by different cultures, languages, accents, political affiliations, ideologies, skin color, gender identities, beliefs and conceptions of what a good society.
We constitute diem-25 movement with the intention to move from a Europe of “We, the governments” and “We the technocrats” towards a Europe of “We the peoples of Europe.”
Our four principles:
- No European people will be free as long as the democracy of another is desecrated
- No European people can live with dignity while another is denied..
- no European nation can hope to prosper if another is pushed to insolvency and permanent depression.
- no nation can grow without basic necessities for its most disadvantaged citizens, without development human, without ecological balance without the determination to become a region free of fossil fuels in a world that changes its ways, not the climate.
We are part of a great tradition of European citizens who have fought for centuries against the principle that democracy is a luxury and the weak are doomed to suffering.
with our hearts, minds and wills imbued with these commitments and our determination to make a difference declare that:

While a struggle for democracy from below (at the local, regional or national level) is necessary, is insufficient if carried out without internationalist strategy that will lead to a pan-European coalition for the democratization of Europe. European Democrats have to meet first, to establish a common agenda, and then find a way to connect with local communities and nationally.
Our primary goal of democratizing the European Union is intertwined with the ambition to promote self-government (economic, political and social) at the local, municipal, regional and national levels; to clear the corridors of power to the people; to merge with civic and social movements; and to emancipate the bureaucratic and corporate power at all levels of government.
We strive for a Europe of Reason, Freedom, Tolerance and imagination that will be possible through a comprehensive transparency, a real Solidarity and genuine democracy. We aspire to.
- A democratic Europe where the political authority emanating from the sovereign peoples of Europe
- A Transparent Europe in which all decisions are taken at the watchful eyes of citizens.
- a united Europe whose citizens have so much in common between nations and within them.
- a Realistic Europe to take responsibility for undertaking radical democratic reforms, but workable.
