July 3, 2015 11:32 Madrid, July 3 (PL) Support for the independence of Catalonia continues to decline and now stands at 42.9 percent, compared to 50 that supports the permanence of that region in Spain, a survey revealed today.
The survey conducted by the Center for Opinion Studies, an organization attached to the Catalan local government, said the pro-secession decreased by 1.2 percent from the previous consultation in March.
The effects of the economic crisis and other issues led to a rise of Catalan independence, which reached maximum values a year ago but has since started a trend confirmed by the study published today low.
With legislative elections scheduled for 27 September, the president of the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government), Artur Mas, has asserted that the vote will be equivalent to a referendum on independence.
