Catalonia prepares the new document of identity of its citizens – RT in Spanish – international News

the Government of the Generalitat continues with its plans to give way to the larger structures of State for the new Catalan Republic. To a Hacienda, Social Security, and Judicial Power in Catalan, is now added the idea of creating an identity document itself the cost of which could be around 9 million euros, as reported by this Thursday ‘The cutting Edge’.

The newspaper reports that the idea is to develop “a document of identification which is a letter of rights political, civil, and of course social”. Thus, the Institut d’estudis de l Autogovern (IEA), the main agency that coordinates the articulation of the so-called “disconnection”, I would be working on a project to integrate in a same document from the tax identification number to the number of health care.

“The will is to give the new citizens the message that with the new citizenship is to recognize social rights, which in other latitudes are in question”, according to explained sources of the Government to ‘The cutting Edge’. With this document, the government wants to convey to the citizens and residents of Catalonia, the so-called “disconnection” of Spain is not going to be any reduction of rights or social services.

The nationality question, determinant

The question of the nationality Catalan is a topic that is being studied by the IEA. According to the newspaper, the Government envisages that the future nationality Catalan is regulated in a way that “provisional” from the time the proclamation of independence until the future Constitution, set some final standards.

In this sense, the issue of nationality will be key to get the document of identity, Catalan and, in addition, will decide who can vote in the constituent process. The rule that collects the Estatut of Autonomy is that “are Catalan citizens Spanish national with neighbourhood administrative in a municipality of Catalonia”, although there are other assumptions that would grant the nationality Catalan to those born in Catalonia and living in Spain, Spanish nationals who live abroad and whose last residence was in Catalonia, or those who have a father or mother Catalan.

however, the IEA envisages that the acquisition of the nationality Catalan don’t assume the disclaimer to the Spanish.
