With the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, which is held on the 2 December, recalls the date at which lGeneral Assembly approved Convention for the suppression of the traffic in persons and of the exploitation of the prostitution of others (resolution 317(IV) Document PDF, of 2 December 1949).

The day focuses on eradicating contemporary forms of slavery, such as trafficking in persons, sexual exploitation, the worst forms of child labour, forced marriage and the forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflict.

Today there are 21 million women, men and children who are slaves in the world. The International Labour Organization (ILO) has teamed up with actors, human rights defenders and athletes of international renown in their nuevacampaña of awareness to combat slavery at the global level to say: “let’s End slavery now!.

The December 18, 2007, the General Assembly, in its resolution 62/122 PDF Document, decided to designate 25 march international Day of remembrance of the victims of slavery and the transatlantic slave trade, to be held annually from 2008 as a complement to the already existing International Day of Remembrance of the Slave trade and its Abolition the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO).
