The senator Spanish Rita Barberá, who was mayor of the city of Valencia for 24 years and a reference from the Popular Party (PP) Mariano Rajoy, died yesterday of a heart attack at age 68, in a hotel of Madrid.
“The medical team performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation for more than 30 minutes, but finally has only been able to confirm his death,” said a spokesman for the emergency services of Madrid.
“In the Popular Party, we are greatly affected” by the death of a person who dedicated “his life” to the training, pointed out Rajoy to journalists, showing “greatly distressed”.
‘I Want to move the deepest condolences to his family and friends’, said the president of the Congress of Deputies, Ana Pastor, before the start of a plenary session that began with a minute of silence in his honor.
The decision emanated from a complaint in court for money laundering was launched in April against the PP in Valencia (east), the country’s third largest city and a former fief of the party.
we Regret the death of Barbera but we cannot participate in a tribute to political to someone whose track record is marked by corruption.
When you meet in September that was being investigated, Barbera was forced to abandon the PP,, that could not afford new scandals when negotiating the formation of a government after a protracted lock institution.
The cause is developed in Valencia, but as Barbera is senator, has aforamiento, a legal entity enjoyed by some charges spaniards, in virtue of which can only be tried by a high court.
The justice detected contributions of one thousand euros made by half a hundred people linked to the party between 23 march and 16 April 2015, among them the own Rita Barbera. The only thing that was recognized was that it made a donation of a thousand euros for election campaign.
Also, the “case Gürtel” currently on trial for alleged corporate corruption and politicians in the PP affected him but was not charged with any crime.
