The last Euskobarómetro conducted by the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU) again prove a “chronic division” between nationalists and non-nationalists in the Basque Country, although the latter maintain their dominance , reported the Spanish newspaper El País .

The same survey offered in late 2014 on the Basque nationalist sentiment, picked up the same results. The Euskobarómetro 2015, prepared from 600 interviews conducted in homes between 29 May and 15 June, just after the last municipal and provincial elections, it confirms the existence of a diversity indentitaria Euskadi, a “dual identity” of citizens who feel Basque and Spanish, albeit with a “vasquista accent.”

In full political debate about reshaping the state model in Spain, around a third of Basque citizens (30%) continues to manifest have great desire to achieve independence, mainly BILDU EH voters (83%) and to a much lesser extent between supporters of GNP (27%).

However, says most have few (26%) or very few (29%) independence , especially among non-nationalist parties desires, and groups like the autonomists Can We. The path independence in 2008 came to receive the support of 36% of the population, according to a survey by the Basque government that year.

What if Euskadi declare an independent state? It is a scenario that generates a lot of uncertainty. The respondents were divided equally between those who report that they live better (27%) and those who think the opposite (29%). Of all the forms of territorial organization, a tie between the autonomist federalism and independence given

.

Win who prefer the current regional model (35% ), against a federal scenario, defended by 29% of respondents.

“Facing decentralizing and integrationist formulas,” says the study, “the independence of the autodeterminista or confederal formulas returns to be around a quarter of the Basques (25%) “, especially in Gipuzkoa and with a majority support among the followers of EH Bildu (77%).

A qualified majority of more than two thirds of the population is relatively satisfied with the Statute, compared with those who feel uncomfortable with this option (20%). If today a statutory referendum would be held, the other would get 41% and stay away from the 53% who voted in the cnsulta held for approval in 1979. By contrast, if then voted not 3%, now it happens to 12%.
