10 moments of the year of reign of Philip VI in photos – Terra Colombia

Philip VI meets this Friday, June 19 his first year as King of Spain, after the abdication of his father, Juan Carlos I , which had reigned since 1975.

During these twelve months, Don Felipe has proposed opening “a new era” for the monarchy, closer to society, after the debate generated in the country in recent times about the continuity of this institution, something that had never happened before.

On the occasion of this first anniversary, we look at the 10 highlights of this first year of reign of Philip VI.

Proclamation. On June 19, 2014 Don Felipe was proclaimed king in a ceremony at the Congress of Deputies, after his father, Don Juan Carlos, announced 17 days before, and to the surprise of most of society, his abdication.

Visit to Vatican. The kings of Spain inaugurated its international agenda with a visit to the Vatican, where the Pope met with Francisco on 30 June 2014.

Speech at the UN Assembly. On September 24 Philip VI gave his first speech before the UN Assembly, which claimed the commitment of this organization principles as national sovereignty and integrity of States.

Columbus Day. On October 12, 2014, the king presided over his first Columbus Day, accompanied by Dona Letizia and her daughters Leonor and Sofia.

The Christmas speech. As his father had done during his reign, Philip VI gave his first Christmas speech on December 24, which introduced some changes. The speech was short and direct, took place a room of the palace, instead of office work, and on the tables looked numerous family photographs.

Final of the Copa del Rey. On May 30, Philip VI presided over his first final of the Copa del Rey soccer, which as we expected was a loud blast from the fans of Barcelona and Athletic de Bilbao anthem of Spain.

Communion of Leonor. The first communion of the Infanta Leonor held on May 20 served to bring the Royal Family. It was the first appearance full family since the proclamation of Felipe VI.

Official visit to France. In early June, the Kings could make an official visit to France that had been postponed in March, when the tragic plane crash of Germanwings, which killed 150 people took place.

Day of the Armed Forces. On June 6, the kings presided over his first Day of the Armed Forces, which as is traditional military parade took place in Madrid’s Paseo del Prado.

Removing the duchy to his sister. One of the most symbolic measures taken by the king has been to revoke the title of Duchess of Palma de Palma her sister Cristina, imputed tax fraud and money laundering in a case in which her husband Inaki Urdangarin is accused of the same crimes and six others.
