Marches for Dignity take Madrid – Terra Colombia

The central Plaza de Colón and its surroundings were filled with thousands of peaceful demonstrators, from all Spanish regions, demanding bread, work and shelter.

“Hundreds of thousands” of workers, according to organizers, and between 10,000 and 12,000, according to police sources, joined the mobilization convened by 300 social organizations and trade unions to protest against the effects of the austerity policies implemented by the government during the crisis.

Under the slogan “Bread, work, housing and dignity,” and despite the rain that fell on Saturday (21/03/2015) on Madrid, demonstrators entered the capital in nine columns from all Spanish regions converged in the this square shortly after 18.00 (19.00 GMT). Participants chanted slogans like “In Parliament is not the solution, the solution is revolution”, “We will not allow eviction or more”, “Long live the struggle of the working class” or “We need and a general strike” including against the Government, bankers or corruption.

At the end of the march, two of its promoters, Pilar Muñiz and Ernesto Sarabia, read a manifesto demanding “a life with dignity” and defend ” minimum program “as a step towards the general strike” labor, consumer and social “of October 22. The “advertising campaign to sell the idea that Spain has emerged from the crisis in which the government and the economic and media powers immersed” who support given “face to face” with the situation in which today is the social majority, they stressed.

Therefore, reject debt repayment, defend public services, demanding decent work with rights and sufficient wages, claiming the right to decide for people, peoples and nations State, oppose labor reforms and censor the gag law.

Some 1,100 agents, 960 of them in riot units and more than 150 members of Civil Protection Samur-integrated safety devices and healthcare, respectively.

The Marches Dignity gathered for the first time on March 22, 2014, when tens of thousands arrived in Madrid and columns marched through the center of the capital, after which, at that time, riots in which they arrested 21 people and dozens injured, 67 of them policemen were produced.
