- The detainees were members of a group “in an advanced stage of radicalization”
Madrid, Spain.- Three alleged jihadists were arrested on Friday in the Spanish enclave of north african Ceuta and in Figueras (north-west Spain), at the time that weapons had been found in several records, announced the ministry of the Interior.
The two men arrested in Ceuta were members of a group "in an advanced stage of radicalization" and showed a "strong level of determination" to commit terrorist acts, said the statement. Both are of Spanish nationality, confirmed a spokesman of the ministry.
A gun and three knives were discovered after the arrest, led by the Civil Guard, in the enclave of 87.000 inhabitants situated in front of the strait of Gibraltar, a very stricken by unemployment and poverty.
In Figueras, was arrested a moroccan identity documents in Dutch, and recently returned to Spanish territory after passing through Turkey for alleged membership of the jihadist group Islamic State (EI).
According to the ministry, the police were able to locate the suspect thanks to the help of the Dutch police and the intelligence services of several countries are not cited.
"The researchers tried to determine the degree of radicalization of the arrested person, their possible links in Europe, the activities that might take place on account of EI and the nature of their goals since his arrival to Spain," said the ministry in a statement.
Just before the New Year, the Spanish police had discovered, in Madrid, a video recording of suspected jihadists with weapons in front of an image of the Puerta del Sol, an emblematic place of the capital.
The Spanish authorities estimate that about 200 spaniards have gone to fight overseas, joining in the ranks of jihadi groups, in comparison with the more than a thousand departures flown from France and Belgium.
