Valencia (Spain), 15 jan (EFE).- The president of the Spanish Government Felipe Gonzalez today called for more dialogue and tolerance in the European Union (EU)= to deal with their current crises, especially in light of the new relationship is opened with the USA with the arrival of Donald Trump, who sees it as an “alpha male unpredictable”.
Gonzalez made this statement after gathering in Valencia (east), an award that recognizes their role in the incorporation of Spain to the European community in 1985, granted together with the then president of the European Commission, Jacques Delors, who today did not attend the event due to his delicate state of health.
Gonzalez warned of the challenges facing the EU, from the economic to the political, including the refugee crisis and the consequences of the arrival of Trump in the relationship with the united States.
“we Need more Europe”, claimed to warn about the impact of brexit on the United Kingdom and the rise of nationalisms exclusive, ask for a greater respect for “pluralism of ideas” and claim “the meaning of the word dialogue in front of monologues successive”.
The former socialist (1982-96) he pleaded for the toleration of the arrogance and superiority and, with respect to the united States, the question was asked how can anyone expect Trump right now, as president, to the contrary of what has been said in the campaign that he was going to carry out.
In this “complicated world and in a crisis,” Gonzalez raised to refocus the discussion on the “qualitative change” that needs to Europe, which in his view requires a better bureaucratic structure and to recover the spirit of the presidency of the EC exercised by Delors.
In this sense, he regretted not to see in the EU, “serious groups working” to assess the consequences of the current crises it faces, from the financial to the refugees, passing through the brexit and the new relationship with the U.S. under the mandate of Trump, which will begin next January 20.
