Clara was born in a stable family circle, both belonging to the aristocracy of Assisi. He had four brothers and was the eldest daughter. His mother was Christian and used to make long journeys. He died on August 11, 1253, surrounded by her sisters and Leon, Angel and Junipero friars; in the monastery of San Damiano. His remains rest in the crypt of the Basilica of St. Clare of Assisi. She was canonized a year after his death, by Pope Alexander IV.
