Seven people died in a collision between two cars in the Catalan town of Figueres, in northeastern Spain, near the border with France, authorities said.

the collision took place at dawn on Saturday in the National II Pont de Molins, on the outskirts of Figueres, according to the Traffic department of the regional government of Catalonia.

the five occupants of one of the vehicles involved, with French license plates, died after a frontolateral collision with the second car they were traveling the other two fatalities and serious injuries, said the Interior Ministry.

None of the victims was identified at the moment, but the Spanish authorities are in contact with the consulates of France and Morocco he said.
