Philip VI restarts consultation procedures – EntornoInteligente

The Times / Madrid |

The Spanish King Philip VI returned the paperwork yesterday to start a new process of consultation to propose a candidate to be submitted to the inauguration of chief executive, in a scenario marked by uncertainty and lack of a clear candidate.

The Congress President Patxi Lopez met with the monarch to provide the list of party leaders in the House. After the failed round of talks last week, in which the acting president, Mariano Rajoy, King declined the proposal, after finding that does not have the support to be invested.

The new round of consultations start tomorrow and there is no set end date.

On December 20, the polls confirmed the end of the traditional Spanish bipartisanship with which PP (in power, center-right) and socialist alternated power for decades, and appeared to force two new parties, Citizens (centrist liberals) and Podemos (left anti-austerity).

The Popular Party was the most voted with 123 seats, ahead of the Socialists PSOE (90), we can (69) and Citizens (40). With an absolute majority of 176 deputies in Congress set the task of forming alliances is complicated in a country little accustomed to this situation of political alliances and pacts.
