Tens of thousands were mobilized in the basque city of Bilbao.
BILBAO, Spain – Tens of thousands were mobilized Saturday in the basque city of Bilbao to demand that the approximately 350 members and supporters jailed for the armed band ETA, in favor of the independence of the Basque Country, to complete their sentences close to their native region.
in Addition to the relatives of the prisoners, relatives of victims of ETA also joined for the first time to the annual march. Some held their hands of cardboard with the index built under the phrase “I denounce” against the government’s policy of dispersing prisoners of ETA in more than 40 prisons in the country to restrict their contact.
ETA killed 829 people during its campaign of nearly four decades for basque independence. In 2011, the band announced a permanent ceasefire but the Ministry of the Interior Spanish says that the dispersal policy will not change until the group disarm completely and their members to ask for forgiveness.
