MADRID – An early morning earthquake caused damage to several buildings and made people scared to leave the streets in the Spanish enclave of Melilla in North Africa
The United States Geological Survey. estimated the magnitude of the quake at 6.3 on the Richter scale and its epicenter situated in the Mediterranean, about 77 kilometers (58 miles) northwest of Melilla, a small sea bordering the Spanish and Moroccan territory city.
There was no immediate news of deaths or injuries after the quake, recorded at 5:22 am (0422 GMT), said the Spanish state television TVE.
Television footage showed pieces concrete floor that had fallen from apartment buildings in Melilla as neighbors went outside in his pajamas after the earthquake.
