The remand (awaiting trial) accused of jihadist terrorism in Spain and this year reached the figure of 61, exceeding for the first time to those who are in custody in connection with the terrorist group ETA, which are nothing more forty.

“For the first time has reversed pyramid” between remand prisoners Islamist terrorism and those linked to ETA, told Efe said the chief prosecutor of the Audiencia Nacional, Javier Zaragoza.

These are figures that reflect the rise of jihadist phenomenon under the self-styled Islamic State (EI) and the gradual decrease in the activity of ETA since the band announced the definitive ceasefire in 2011.

Zaragoza estimated that the total number of remand prisoners by jihadism “could reach hundred” in late 2015 to continue “at this rate” police operations being made to neutralize the jihadist phenomenon in Spain.

At the moment, in the first four months of this year already exceeded the total number of persons who entered in 2014 in prison in connection with various terrorist groups Islamist: the Islamic State, AQIM ( Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb) or MUYAO (Movement for the Union of Jihad in West Africa).

According to data provided to Efe by the Office of the National Court, the total of 61 prisoners jihadism awaiting trial in Spanish prisons, 28 were imprisoned so far in 2015, 21 in 2014 and 11 in 2013.

The number of children admitted in preventive detention centers by its relationship with jihadism has also increased in the first months of 2015 and are now double the year past, since in 2014 were only two so far this year have already reached five.

The increase in operations to disrupt jihadist cells, either dedicated to sending fighters to Iraq and Syria, either with intent to infringe on Spanish territory, has meant that in 2015 and 60 were instituted proceedings in the courts National Court when around 2014 were 79.
