Protests in Spain against Public Order Act – Milenio.com

Thousands of people gathered on Saturday in Madrid to protest against a law that toughens sanctions against certain manifestations and hinders the right of asylum, found the AFP.

“The voice of the people is not illegal, free speech, free expression “protesters chanted against a law promoted by the Popular Party (PP, right, in power), which must still be adopted by the Senate.

” I’m here to express before me prohibit it, “he told AFP Juan José Parrilla, 48, employee of a hospital in Madrid.

” No bread, homeless, homeless, and now quietly treatment ? “she questioned in a banner another protester.

The text provides a battery of measures against frequent riots in recent years in Spain, where austerity has provoked demonstrations with hundreds of thousands of people occupations housing and mobilizations against expulsions.

These measures would allow the state to impose huge fines –up 600,000 euros as cases- without going through a judge.

So fines are anticipated during demonstrations in places where they can be disturbed utilities, near the Parliament, or for the purpose of hindering prosecution and housing expulsions (in this case a fine of 30,000 euros).

The law also criticized because it would expel illegal immigrants without being able to bring a claim for asylum, is presented by the government as a text for safety and the opposition as a law “gag”.
