The citizens gave their votes on 24 May at the polls to elect new councilors of municipalities and autonomous regions. The elect have voted this morning to the new rulers, in most of the Spanish territory, leaving a colorful political map in institutions. The Popular Party has been demoted within the municipalities, being replaced by agreements between the left parties and in some cases with Citizens. The discontent of the population management applications popular in his last decision has been the climax to this change.
The city of Alicante has become a socialist hands after 20 years of absolute majority of the PP. This change would not have been possible without the support of other parties of the left, and their covenants, as Guanyar and Compromís, with Citizens, whose vote on the investiture ceremony has been in favor of the new mayor Gabriel Echavarri (PSOE), leaving Sánchez Zaplana (PP) with 8 few votes. Pavon and Bellido, however, have not hesitated to pose with the new prime Alicante mayor and his baton in the official photo this morning. These three rulers have achieved their objective but will remember its electoral program and promises over the last four years? Hope so.
The investiture ceremony occurred this morning in the Blue Room of City Hall has had a cost of 14,500 €. This show could have been a lower cost if they had avoided several aspects such as converting the Plaza de la Santa Faz in a movie theater. Anyway, let’s leave it there; Alicante society now needs a giant screen of 3,500 € by necessity of “swagger”. Hopefully things go and change for the better.
In short, the Popular Party should rethink over the next four years of opposition a number of changes if you really want to regain the throne, while the tripartite must comply the interests of each of them not to turn the plenary chamber in a battle that will affect the rest of Alicante.
